How to print on clear labels without smearing?

Label printers are very common devices in this modern day and age. They print labels on adhesive label papers. A label paper can be a card-stock that is commonly known as tag, or some other material. It is quite different from a traditional printer due to a number of reasons.

It can be the design which is much smaller than an ordinary printer. Also, the difference can be in working and use. While, a printer generates hard copy of an electronic data from a computer, a label printer is only used for printing labels. Many variations of label printers come with their own keyboard and a digital display.

Working with a label printer also requires proper handling. If not, it can lead to various issues with the output. For instance, a label printer can cause smearing if not operated correctly. A beginner can make this mistake more often. However, if given a proper tutorial, you can prevent such mistakes. So, to help you out, we have listed a few steps that would give you the answer to your question.

Customizing the Label:

When you buy a label printer, it comes with a disc. That is for the driver of the printer. It is easy to install as the installation provides all clear instructions. Once you have installed the software, it would open doors to a lot of customization.

You can customize the text of a label or the graphic designing in a label. So, make sure you have them customized the way you want. That is because later on, you would not be able to do that during printing.

Creating and Adjusting:

Once you have the print design you want, select the kind of label you want to print. A labeling machine has the capability to print labels from various popular shipping companies. It may include Amazon, Shopify, eBay, FedEx, and much more.

This is the most important part of the tutorial as it prevents smearing during printing. So, make sure you follow correctly. From the print dialog box, you would see all the settings. Select the number of copies you want. From the “copies and pages” tab, select the print settings option.

From there, locate the “media type” tab. Change the media type to “Label”. You might also find the value of resolution a little higher. Change its value as well and set it to 300 DPI (Dots per Inch).

Start Printing :

After you have changed the resolution and media type, you would see the Print button below. Click on that button to start printing labels. Hopefully, you might not face smearing.

However, if you still face such issues, consider lowering the resolution value even more. The media type label allows the printer to work slower than usual which might decrease the chances of smearing.

The lower value of resolution means it would allow less toner to be put on the paper. So, if you face smearing at 300 DPI as well, try lowering the resolution to 100 DPI. It is recommended that you check the suitable resolution of your label printer from its description before starting printing with it.
